Following the great success of the Svey Leu District project, we are working with the BFT, team and our friends in Rotary, to put together a new project to deliver a total of sixty deep bore wells in six villages located in the Siem Reap and Banteay Meanchey province.
All six villages suffer from severe problems with water supply. During the wet season, water is available, but is sourced mainly from ponds, ring wells and ditches, some far from the villages and often badly contaminated and unsafe to drink. During the dry season of January to June however, the situation is even more severe. Access to sufficient water, even of poor quality, is a major challenge and villagers spend many hours each day obtaining water. The poor water quality leads to significant health problems, including chronic dysentery, and high infant mortality rates.
